Gorgeous!

Producer: Renaissance Theatre Company

Writer: Donald Rupe
Director: Sara Catherine Barnes

Arrangements/Orchestrations: Jason M Bailey
Choreographer: Adonus Mabry

Casting: Kelsay + Morales Company, Joshian Morales & Kayla Kelsay Morales

Loosely inspired by the cult-classic film "Drop Dead Gorgeous," the musical Gorgeous! follows a pair of sisters (Becky and Bernice Buckley) as they prepare for the "Miss Golden Boot Pageant" in St. Crowd, Florida, a pageant infamously won by their controlling stage-mom, Breanna Buckley. Quirky contestants and backwoods townspeople make the show a hilarious parody of a small-town beauty pageant, choreographed by the feisty Svedka Stolichnaya (played by Blake Aburn).

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

[Aside from the following roles, the writer is very interested in collaborating with performers in creating the zany characters of St. Crowd and the "Miss Golden Boot" pageant. The show is irreverent, the comedy is out-of-this-world.]

SVEDKA STOLICHNAYA, the Russian ballet teacher who is the choreographer for the pageant. [CAST]

BECKY BUCKLEY: A mean-spirited older sister who is the favorite to follow in her mother's footsteps and win the pageant. She's the leader of the mean girls and bullies her sister relentlessly.

BERNICE BUCKLEY: The younger sister. She is not who you would consider a traditional pageant girl, for whatever reason. She is the protagonist who has followed in her sister's shadow for far too long.

BREANNA BUCKLEY: Mother to the two feuding sisters, she is famous in St. Crowd. She won the Miss Golden Boot pageant twenty years ago and won't let anyone forget it. She's a local realtor and treats everyone like garbage, even her darling daughter Becky.

VARIOUS CONTESTANTS: These are larger than life contestants who all have their own reasons for joining the Miss Golden Boot Pageant. Help us create a character for you. Or, check out some of the roles who were featured in the original production, which could or could not return for this longer show format:

Obsessed-with-cats girl (the musical and the animal)

Hippy girl who speaks only in Haiku poems

A character in drag who is obsessed with her Asian culture and her psychopath mother

David Minelli, a male contestant who entered the pageant only by finding a loophole which doesn't specify a gender requirement

Andrea Adams, the poor girl who is Becky's only real competition

Cheryl Parker-Rodriguez, the girl who is teen pregnant

Other potential characters: pageant judges, pageant hosts, "stage manager"/Breanna's assistant
